I think this has been the most amazing summer we have had in forever. There were a few days of rain and that was it. Endless days of sunshine and blue skies. I got in a round of golf, the first time I've done this in years, and I have to admit, I really missed it. I But I'm ready for some rain. I want to quilt "guilt-free" and I need some rainy days for that. The yard keeps beckoning me but I'm done, done, done with it!
My summer quilting has been dismal. I spent some time this past weekend getting the final borders on this appliqued piece that I got done in May/June. Only 2 months to get the border on, geesh!
This is my first 4 block applique and it was great to make these big blocks. The top is 72 x 72
I've kept my hands busy with the hand quilting on this piece. Once the binding has been finished, this will hit the wash to get out the markings, and I will be shipping it out to someone.
BTCT update: N-O-T-H-I-N-G
It will be tops on my list for Sept to December.
Quite some time back I mentioned that I wanted to get an old cross stitch piece finished. However, these 50 something year old eyes can't see to stitch on 32 ct linen. I borrowed a magnifying glass, but it wouldn't stay on my frame so I broke down and bought one with a clamp. OMG, I can see. My commitment is going to be one night a week on this and in time it will be finished. It really is beautiful.
So I say, Good Bye summer, you've been great, but I'm really ready for the fall, the turning leaves, a few rainy days, and some crisp cool afternoons. Bring it on!
Sharon

Nice cross stitch! A blast from the past. I don't think I could see to do it either! Love your quilts!
I love both of your applique pieces, read and green are one of my favorites. I need to get back to my BTCT too.
I gave up cross stitch a long time ago but love to look at the ones I made, I don't think I could see those little holes either!
LOVE the large appliqué blocks and the little center piece setting differently from the others. Have you a pattern source that you could kindly point me to? I've tried little appliqué blocks but always toss them aside in frustration.
I am with you about the arrival of fall, Sharon. I need to hunker down and get going on some large, almost forgotten pieces. Love the big block applique piece.
I'm looking forward to more stitching time, but I'm always sad to say goodbye to summer- I hold onto it as long as possible.
I love your basket with big flowers!! Lucky person who is receiving it. And your 4 block quilt! Woo-Hoo!!
My 50-something eyes are in constant need of brighter lights and stronger glasses for such detailed work as that cross-stitch. It will be beautiful. I never did get real comfortable stitching on linen.
Your applique project and hand quilting look wonderful. I'd forgotten about that hand quilting one. Love it!
Your quilts are beautiful fall colors too. The pomegranates are gorgeous!
I wish I had your 50 yr. old eyes. I have a cross stitch piece that is 15 yrs. old. I got it out a year ago and these 60 yr. old eyes really balked at the 32 count. The piece is about 3/4 complete but it's back in storage.
Beautiful projects, all three! The big flower pot will be received with a thrill, I'm sure.
Love your big block appliqué. Perfect colors.
Nice cross stitch. I sympathize with the eyes and fine linen. Great four block quilt!
Thinking a few of us will be hard at work on BTCT this winter. Love your pomegranate blocks and the large pot of flowers.
I for one still want summer - just on the cool side. And Fall is beautiful too - it could last until next April and then go right into Spring. Wisconsin winters? Ugh!!
Oh, what great eye candy you're showing us! Love that four block quilt. Holy cow, what a lot of little HST's! No wonder it took you months to do it!
I just adore your big basket of flowers and I love your wonky triangle border! Lucky person that gets this one!
Our summer this year has just been glorious, hasn't it? I don't want it to go away yet, but I sure could use more guilt-free quilt time too. Looks like we're getting a nice week this week, and I plan on enjoying it as much as I can before the rain gets serious again. :) You could always sit out in the sun and hand-quilt, right?
Your four block pomegranate is fantastic! Love those quilts - yours will be stunning.
Your big flower quilt is fun! Love the dog tooth border
Your red, green, and yellow quilts are wonderful, wonderful! The colors and designs. The applique. All got my attention.
The border looks fabulous on your Red & Green 4 block quilt. (what a beautiful top) Your Dresden flowers quilt looks fabulous too!
That needlework project looks like a wonderful project. I recently purchased a free standing light up magnifier at a local craft store. It helps with my evening stitching.
Well, of course I just LUV your pomegranate quilt and it is soon to be pomegranate season and my trees will be giving me their wonderful fruit. I also just luv the traditional colors. When I squint at my Pomegranate Tree Quilt, I see a huge, old-fashioned appliquéd wreath quilt in those colors.
best, nadia
Pomegranates are my favorite motif! I saw a tree yesterday that took my breath away with it's gorgeous red fruit! Beautiful job on the x stitch too... I have a magnifying thingy too but it is slow going for me!! Have a good week Sharon, Pam
