I have started pre washing more. I feel so sorry for Hilda but the quilt is still beautiful.

I have always pre-washed, always....
such a devastating result here, what a heart-break........

I always pre-wash. My friends think I am crazy. I have found there is less distortion in the finished block. My sister who machine quilts for me has often commented how nice and flat and square my quilt tops are. She is so nice that I like making a little bit of the job easier for her. Great results. I used some scraps from a friend once. Never again. I spent too much time ironing the 12"x12" or 18"x20" pieces. It is a lot easier to iron or put a decent shape in to cotton fabrics that have already been washed. So I think it saves me time. Also everything is folded and ready to cut. No delays fussing with straightening out pieces as they come from the store.
