This is how I spent my Saturday morning. Sewing all these 1 3/4" 1/2 sq triangles together. The blocks are the bonus blocks from my Sisters Choice blocks. I have over 600 and this used up 200+ I choose plain muslin for the setting triangles. Since the shape of this star is very funky, I made templates for each of the sides, being careful to not stretch the piecing.
I can see along the outer edges of the star that I could have used dark setting triangles to give the edge more definition, but it's sewn together and it shall be what it is.
I purposely made the setting triangles oversized because this star is not straight and I haven't squared it up yet. I've laid out cheddar on one side and red on the other side. I might add a border of 1/2 sq tri's without using a stop border and then bind with a color. I will let this stay on my wall for a while, let the ideas marinate, before I go any further.
But it's not like I'm going anywhere. Just when I felt my knee was good enough to start hitting golf balls and going back to yoga, I did this on Thursday night. Needless to say, the ice packs have been back in use, I spent all day Friday with my foot propped up on a pillow and did some hand quilting while I plowed through season 5 of Mad Men. Thank goodness my employer is so understanding, spending most of the day with it up and iced has made a huge difference in just one day.
Ouch!

Ouch! Did you break your baby toe? I love your block. It looks so vintage. You did good and I am sure whatever you decide on the finish, it will be perfect.
Looks like my Daughters foot. She broke her little toe. Love your waste triangles quilt...clever way to use them.
The block looks great - I love it...and I found that book in my Connecting Threads catalog and immediately thought of you! I might have to buy it now...so sorry about your foot, OUCH! Looks painful - hope you feel better!
That foot does not look good but the triangle star does. Such a good idea! The star....not the foot injury.
Wow! That looks painful but the ice and elevating it should help. Hope it heals quickly.
I noticed that same quilt in that book but haven't tried piecing it. What size is your finished block? It's wonderful and I love the cheddar with it.
How fun - this immediately caught my eye!
Here's to a speedy healing process:)
Ouch!! What a frustration to have this setback.
But you can be mighty proud of your star. What a great use of those bonus triangle. Sister's Choice is moving closer to the top of my "to do" list for the year. I loved yours--I am so excited to make one. : )
ideas marinate-- I think that is why we need big design walls. I am sorry your foot is injured. I do hope you Pick what works for you. I must say I like the cheddar. I have the book it is a fun one.
Your poor foot!!
your HST star is an amazing feat!
Had a chance to view this piece last night and really liked it. I have never known any quilter in over 37 years that was capable of producing as much as you do Sharon.
Happy 4th of July!
