Project Hexi Update

It's been a long road to this point, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This hexi project was started back in 2004, with the original design being one that required each template to be hand cut. I then discovered that I could buy the paper templates, but they were not available in the strange size I started with. The project got revamped to 3/4" hexi's. Translate that to mean "I started from scratch". This was the perfect project to take along for all my radiation treatments last summer and I re-engaged with this project. I had to set it aside while I dealt with some issues with my arm and wrist, but fast forward to today and I'm getting the rows joined. It's now in 3 sections and very close to being one piece. I've decided smaller and finished is better than abandoning this again. I'll have some border options next week.
I've also been keeping at the longarm quilting and have finished this beautiful Christmas quilt for my friend Muriel. I love the colors and fabrics she's chosen. The back is a winter print flannel and it quilted up so nice and snuggly. Now she gets to square and bind and there will be a new quilt in her house for the holidays.
I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm on quilt show overload. There is one more in LaConner, WA this weekend but I have to take a pass. Just too little time and a lot of things going on. Moonlighters Guild in Bellingham just had their show and it had some amazing quilts. This one was my favorite,
My friend Betsy completed the 60 mile walk for Breast Cancer Susan G Koman event this past weekend. I'm so proud of her. We will wrap up our fund raising efforts in two weeks, with the final event being Oct 15th.
Way to go Betsy, you are my hero!

Big White Ribbon

I'm tooting my own horn here, I won Third place with my Mom's quilt at Innovations Machine quilting show. When I opened up the box and saw the ribbon I could not believe it. This is the quilt that I am donating to the Hospice. It leaves my arms this Friday and I'll be giving one of the ribbons with the quilt. It's won Blue at NW WA fair, Red at Abbotsford Sewing Expo and now this! Amazing!
Anyways, click here to see the fabulous work that quilters are doing all over the world. My friend Jo Baner won Blue with her AMAZING barn quilt. Enjoy.

Girls Getaway

I'm having issues with blogger on this post, so things are running together....Last weekend was our annual Girls Getaway to the Gorge. It was 4 days all about friendship, quilting, food and wine. We spent 3 nights at the Gorge in OR, and during the days we enjoyed the Columbia River Quilt Show at Stevenson Fair grounds. I taught an applique class and Muriel taught a table runner class. Paula and Norma took classes and volunteered at the show. As usual, you can click on the photos for more details. It was a fabulous group of quilts that hung in this judged show, I tried to get all the ribbon winners, sorry if I missed some!

Mixed Technique Second Place

This was entered in the Mixed category as all the stack and whack motifs were appliqued.

First place in large category.  Lovely quilt.

 Second in the large pieced.

Large quilts, third place

Mary Arnold of Vancouver, WA  Best of Show.....no kidding!

All hand quilted.  This has been a work in progress for many years, and I'm glad the quilter showed this piece.  I spent some time enjoying this piece.  Excellent choices of quilting motifs.

I loved this one too. The quilting design was excellent for the piecing.  Very well done.

Mary Arnold, First place in Applique

My Christmas banner, Second in Applique.  whoohoo!

Here are the winners in the Small Catagory, very cute!

 Innovative First place  Very creative.
Innovative Second Place
Innovative Third Place

 Paula's beautiful Churn Dash.
Nancy Goldsworthy from 9 Patch Quilting.
 Norma's beautiful quilt.
I thought this stack and whack was fabulous.  The quilting on the borders was very interesting.  A great choice of design.

The Columbia Gorge Quilters raised just over $1000 on this quilt.  The monies will be split up between the local hospitals to help fund mammograms for local women.  It is a beautiful quilt and it was a guild member who won this.

I thought this Jacobs Ladder was very well done.  Their piecing was wonderful on this quilt.  One of my favorites of this show.

Quilt Show III

These quilts were shown as a special exhibit at Innovations in Tacoma, WA All of these quilts were made by Sharon Schamber. Her work is amazing. It's a combination of thread play and painting. The borders on some are unbelievable. Hand dyes woven into cording and appliqued on. Such attention to detail. To see these quilts in person was such a delight. Click on the photos for a closer look. Enjoy.

The winners will be posted in a few days, that's when we get to see all the quilts that got ribbons.

Quilt Show II

Innovations is a Machine Quilting show every fall in Tacoma, WA This year they had two special exhibits, one was Irena Bluhm that I showed yesterday and Sharon Schamber was the other feature quilter (my next post). Her quilts are works of art, not the bed quilts that I make. :-)
Click on any photo for a closer look at the machine quilting. Some of these are simply amazing. They take months to complete and are truly a labor of love.
WOW!
I think this one below is also a whole cloth quilt.
This whole cloth quilt was my absolute favorite. The fabric was navy blue and the stitching was done in navy/black in some places and in white in other places. The design and execution of it was breath taking!
Close up of my favorite.  Look at the corner feather, it is amazing!
I have a few more posts, I couldn't decide what quilts to not show so I'm posting most of them.
