I had to find Kathy Doughty's newest book RIGHT AWAY! Oh goodness, it is filled with ideas and inspiration galore. You can ask for it at your LQS and here's where you can peek at it. I modified the pattern and everything still worked out for me. I love the red bandana print for the centers.
Once I took this to my LQS, we decided to play with batiks and see how it looks. Here I'm auditioning the last few colors that I want to add into this quilt. It's the perfect size for a group of quilts I'm making. With no borders, it's approx 50 x 50
Once I got my color placement organized, I squared up the circles and pressed the blocks in alternate directions so they nest together. A quick trip to town and I had the perfect center fabric. I've machine appliqued them for a faster finish and also because this is going to become a beach quilt for my guys ocean front condo. (when he finally moves into it!)
Stay tuned for this one to evolve! and go get Kathy's newest book, you won't regret it.

I love the flower centers on the last one! I need to get busy and applique my centers.
How are your seam intersections lining up? They look perfect. I've been working on a similar project, a kaleidoscope block and my seams are all over the place. Does your method involve a ruler or templates?
What a very fun design! I really like seeing it in the different fabrics. Looks good in anything--and what creative centers in the black/white version!
I really like those little pops of color in the last blocks!
Sharon, it's always fun to see what you are going to come up with. Lucky T.
Nice array of different versions! It's such a bold block but really takes on different looks depending on the fabric choices, doesn't it? I'm on a book diet but may have to reconsider...
Love the movement in these blocks/quilts. I think your guy is going to love his quilt, too.
Oh, you've been having lots of fun! I love these blocks (I've been following along with Wanda's adventure as well), and it's so fun to see them in different fabrics. And they all work! Love the batiks one! And the bandana fabric is fun, and I love the flower centers on the b&w blocks!
I love what you're doing with this block. I agree, there's tons of inspiration in Kathy's new book!
What a fun design!
I really like the flower design you added to the last set of blocks. These will all make wonderful quilts.
What a fun quilt! I love seeing all your versions.
